Primary Role: Designer, Developer, Editor, Writer
Status: Live

Description: In Summer, 2011, I revamped Gosu.com into a second phase. I broadened the content into a larger scope of categories, and created a custom WordPress theme from scratch. I utilized the CMS’s template hierarchy to classify all content into sections differentiated by various bold colors in an otherwise black and white aesthetic. As of late October, the site is now running in a soft launch phase.

Primary Role: Designer, Developer, Editor, Writer
Status: Replaced by Phase II

Description: In early Spring, 2011, a friend of mine offered me the chance to redevelop a domain he owned that he didn’t have time to work on. In my spare time, I created a full WordPress site focused around gaming news, interviews, reviews, and events. The site has experienced solid growth with over 7 contributors and 40,000 unique visits in its second month. I am currently working on a “Phase II” which will broaden the scope of content covered by the site, and give it a more traditional e-Zine layout and design. Overall, it’s been great fun.

Classification: Full Time (Sametz)
Primary Role: Animator, Creative Collaborator, Developer
Status: Over 15 sketches, 100 Flash ads, 8 Television ads, & 5 Landing pages across more than 12 campaigns delivered to the client, ongoing
URLs for sites with web placements: http://etfdb.com , http://seekingalpha.com
Description: Over The course of the past two years, I’ve been heavily involved in both the production and creative evolution of ad campaign materials for Direxion, a mutual fund and ETF investment firm and one of Sametz Blackstone’s most prolific clients. Each campaign currently consists of a print design, a suite of 7 different sizes (300×250, 120×600, 160×600, 300×600, 728×90, 640×480, 760×600) of web ads, a standard definition Television Ad for display on Bloomberg TV and CNBC, and a landing page. At the onset of a new campaign, our team collaborates to develop the visual and intellectual concept that will be carried across each medium.
I, along with the designers involved, produce sketches for the client to review. Once the client has approved a concept, I am responsible for creation of the full suite of web ads, the TV ad, and the landing page. I work with designers on asset production and to maintain a high standard of visual consistency, but am the primary creative force behind all motion graphics and effects involved. The web ads are created in Flash, the TV ad is produced using Motion and Final Cut Pro, and the Landing Pages are hand coded in HTML5/CSS and delivered to the client’s webmaster for final implementation.
Example Flash Ads
Generation 3 (Fall 2010 – Present, Select “Replay” to watch from the beginning):
Example TV Ad:
Direxion 30 Seconds ETF “Signs” Spot – Quicktime, h264
Example Landing Page:
(Please note that we provided HTML/CSS to the client who then implemented a number of other features into the code themselves)

Description: My uncle contacted me in late 2009 about a much needed revamp of his company’s website. He expressed his desire for a small, simple site that would serve primarily as an online brochure/advertisement. A few months later he’d finished the site’s new content and we got underway. Keeping the budget low, I produced a nice, clean design, then built out the site using XHTML/CSS with dustings of flash and javascript for a few small animated bells and whistles. The site was launched successfully in June, 2010 after group review and approval by the client.

Details: We created the “I’m with X” landing page in conjunction with a series of web and print ads to serve as a landing page for the Direxion Funds site. It consists of a large flash components and some static text (XHTML/CSS). The flash component was one of the more complex ones I’ve done, consisting of multiple stages and transitions (the signs moving at the bottom was particularly tricky, given that there were so many different ways to arrive at a specific stage). We will likely be expanding the project some in the near future, creating more specific landing “zones” for different ads.

Primary Role: Site Development, Flash Design and Development
Status: Client launched, periodic redesigns and additions
Live URL: http://www.direxionfunds.com
Details: Direxion’s other half focuses on mutual funds and is perhaps the more traditional of the two. Like Shares, I am responsible for all XHTML/CSS development on the website, which undergoes design changes periodically. I’m also responsible for all flash work on the site. Here the SWFs tend to focus a little less on animation and more on presentation of various pieces of information. As such, they tend to require more sophisticated planning and coding, but far less front end work.

Details: Direxion Shares represents one half of Direxion, an investment company specializing in mutual funds and leveraged ETFs. They’re also one of our most prolific clients at Sametz, and the one for which I do the lion’s share of my work. For the Direxion Shares website, I am responsible for hand coding all XHTML and CSS for any design changes (sometimes full overhauls) and delivering said code to Direxion’s webmaster, often consulting during launch. I am also responsible for design and development of the site’s flash components, usually found on the homepage. For Shares, the components tend to be players featuring playful but cautionary animated vignettes targeted towards potential investors. I fully create and animate each vignette, consulting with the team regarding content. Since Shares consists of the leveraged ETFs, which are particularly powerful yet volatile trading tools, these animated shorts add a bit of humor to what is otherwise a serious educational message. The ETFs are meant for savvy, experienced investors with the capacity to monitor the market on a daily basis.
